The U.K. was one of the first to align with TCFD—but it's just getting started. With SECR, procurement-linked carbon plans, and new ISSB-based standards incoming, British businesses face a fast-evolving reporting environment.

  • Standard listed issuers and asset managers

  • Government suppliers over £5M (goods) / £35M (works)

  • All quoted and large unquoted UK companies + LLPs

Why Is This Being Introduced?
  • To align with TCFD and ISSB, tackle climate risks head-on, and prevent ESG greenwashing.

What's Required?
  • TCFD-aligned reports on a comply-or-explain basis

  • Scope 1, 2 and selected Scope 3 emissions via SECR

  • Government contract bidders must have Carbon Reduction Plans

When Is This Happening?
  • Rolling from April 2022 onward

Where is Reporting Submitted?
  • Annual reports, Companies House, and company websites (for CRPs)
